Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

B. Dea. Clarence Dover: Duties of Fathers and Men of Christ – Proverbs 22:1. Fathers should have a good name. For a man to have a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

C. Dea. James Byers: Be a Wise Man- Proverbs 22:3. Fathers should be wise men. A prudent man forseeth the evil, and hideth himself, but the simple perish and are punished.

D. Rev. L. C. Knuckles: To Teach – Proverbs 22:6. A Christian father should teach hischildren, train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

E. Romain Fernanders Jr.: Isaiah 38:15. Men are to praise and Honor God – A Christian father is obligated to praise and honor God. – He shall praise thee, as I do this day: The Father shall make known the truth to his children!!

F. William Cleveland: To Provide – II Corinthians 12:14. . . I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for parents but the parents for the children.

G. Al Phillips: To Nurture – Ephesians 6:4. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Colossians 3:21 – Father, provoke not your children to anger lest they be discouraged.

H. Jay Thompson – To Love – Titus 2:4. That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, and their children.

I. Dea. Lucious Jones: To Control – I Timothy 3:4, 5. A Christian father rules well his own house, having his children in subjection; for if a man cannot rule his house, how can he govern the church.

Obligations of Fathers and Men / Men’s Responsibilities

J. Frederick Dover: To Instruct – Proverbs 4:1/ Hear children, the instruction of the Father, and get good understanding – for I give you good doctrine. For I give you good food. Men, forsake not instruction.

K. Quinton Littlejohn: Men Have Parental Influence. – II Chronicles 22:3. Fathers, we have influence over our children and influence their behavior. For the people of Jerusalem chose Ahaziah as their King, and walked in the evil ways of his father Ahab, whose mother was his counselor and encouraged him in wrongdoing.

L. Navy Man Clarence Dover, Jr.: Correction
Proverbs 13:24 . Christian fathers are to correct their children. He that spares the rod – hates his son. He that loves his son corrects him. (23:13) Withhold not correction from children., for if you beat him with the rod, he will not die.

M. LaBrannon Gregory : Psalm 103:13. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; Proverbs 3:11-12 /My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline. . and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. (NIV)

N. Mr. Anderson: Selected Quotes About a good Father.

O. Larry Smith: Malachi 4:6. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse. (NIV). Psalm 103:13. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.

P. Larry Byers: I Dare you to be a man!!! I challenge you to be a man like David. I challenge You to arm yourself with a similar faith in God that David had—when armed with a slingshot, he killed Goliath the Giant. I challenge you to arm yourself with the Holy Spirit and believe in God as David did. I Challenge you to be a man of God!
