Lattimore to preach initial sermon

Pastor Lee Byers and the Shady Grove Church Family proudly announce the initial sermon of Dea. Darrett Lattimore on Sun., Nov. 9, 2014 at 4 p.m.

Dea. Lattimore has served devotedly at Shady Grove Baptist Church and previously at Lewis Chapel Baptist Church in Glendale, SC. He is a member of the Sunday School, served as a Trustee, Sunday School teacher, member of the Thickety Mountain Brotherhood, Usher Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, Armor Bearer Ministry, Music Ministry, and was ordained as a deacon in 2012.

Dea. Lattimore is apt to teach and loves to read and study God’s word. His favorite scripture is Philippians 4:6: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition and with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”, (NIV).

He is married to Shakila Byers Lattimore, and they have five beautiful children.

‘Pink Sunday’ raises cancer awareness, honors survivors

Minister Dewberry delivers the message

Minister Juanita Dewberry spoke as part of a program honoring cancer survivors and those still dealing with it.

Those honored included Dea. Eugene Manning; Dea. Dean Dover; the Rev. L.C. Knuckles; Dea. James Shippy; Sis. Teresa Wallace and granddaughter; Tamaria Gregory; Sis. Connie Weeks; Sis. Stacy Lipscomb; Sis. Sarah Graham; Sis. Wanda Smith; Sis. Esther Byers; Sis. Peggy Whittenburg; Sis. Evelyn Shippy; Sis. Bridgett Rainey; Sis. Fannie Bonner; Sis. Dianne Norris; and guest speaker Minister Dewberry.

Salad luncheon

The Senior Missionary and Young Womens Auxiliary also hosted a “salad luncheon” after the morning service. Members of the Senior Missionary and YWA prepared and shared various types of salads: chicken salad, ham salad, potato salad, pasta salad, carrot salad, taco salad and more. Pink punch and pink cake were the dessert.

Guest speaker for ‘Pink Sunday’ observance

Minister Juanita Dewberry will be the guest speaker for the Shady Grove Baptist Church ‘Cancer and Pink Sunday’ observance October 19, 2014 during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Minister Dewberry is an Associate of Limestone Baptist Church, where Rev. Michael Golden is pastor. She was licensed to preach in March 2005, and continues to exercise her gifts and carry forth God’s word.

Minister Dewberry is a kingdom builder serving as president of ‘My Sister’s Keeper Ministry’, Ladies Bible Study teacher, and assist with the Sunday School ministry. According to Minister Dewberry, “She loves studying for her sermons and keeps God’s word and a sermon on her heart and one in her pocket”.

She is married to Deacon Chris Dewberry and they have two children and four grandchildren.

The Shady Grove Senior Missionary and Women’s Ministry will be in charge of the service. All cancer survivors will be recognized and ladies and men are asked to wear some pink, or all pink for this observance. To support the American Cancer Society and its efforts, a special donation will be taken on October 19th and 26th.

Following the service, a repast will be held in the Rev. London C. Knuckles Fellowship Hall featuring salads, pink cake, and pink lemonade. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
