Norris speaks at Missionary meeting

Sis. Dianne Norris served as Shady Grove Baptist Church’s representative when she spoke during the quarterly meeting of the Thickety Mountain Missionary Quarterly Meeting held recently at the Thickety Mountain Baptist Associational Building.

The program theme was, “John’s Portraits of Christ” and Norris spoke on the topic, “The Bread of Life,” taken from John 6:33-58.

Church representatives who participated on this third-quarter program included those from Mt. Calvary, Youngs Grove, and Island Creek Baptist Church. All churches of the association are selected to participate during services held each fifth Sunday during each quarter of the year.

The Association Quarterly program coordinator is Sis. Rubye Sanders. Sis. Dorothy Manning is Shady Grove’s Missionary president, and the Rev. Lee Byers is pastor.

The Shady Grove Deaconess Ministry will observe its annual “Breast Cancer Awareness Event” on Sunday, Oct 23, 2011, during the 11:00 morning worship service.  

The guest speaker will be Mrs. DeLisa Simon-Dawkins, community outreach coordinator for the Gibbs Regional Cancer Center at Spartanburg Regional Hospital Center. Her professional career has spanned 12 years in public relations and community outreach experience combined with 19 years in the healthcare industry. Her position is to organize outreach activities to increase awareness and educate the community about cancer. 

Dawkins has an associate’s degree in Laboratory Sciences from Greenville Technical College, a bachelor’s degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, and is scheduled to obtain her master’s from Strayer University in June 2012. She is currently credentialed in Medical Technology.

She is married to Steve Dawkins and is the mother of 2 children, Destiny and Donovan.

The public is cordially invited to attend this service and event. Everyone is asked to wear pink and black if possible.
